In sculpture class I used a lot of tools that helped my create my art work. For example when I made my snail sculpture I used the sponge to smooth the body out, the modeling tool to make the swirls on the shell, then I used the scoring scraper and needle tool to put the snail together, then I used some pattern tools to give the snail texture. my understanding of tools has changed a lot at the beginning of the class I had no idea what anything was cause this was my first art class. I now understand how to use the tools and what they are used for so now when I sue them I can make my art piece look so much better What was your favorite material that you used this year? Why do you like working with it?
My favorite material I worked with in this class was probably clay or the cardboard. I liked using the clay cause you can make it into literally anything you want then the card board was just a unique material that was fun to use. What is a technique you used in your artwork that worked well? Explain what technique it was and why it was successful.a technique I used in my art work in my snail shell I carved the lines with the needle tool. It was successful on this piece because it gave the texture the snail needed to make it realistic. Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. The dollar bill me and Henry made was probably my most successful piece that we made. The theme of our topic was a dollar bill but we wanted to make the dollar different so we put Homer Simpson face on it instead of George Washington. The process of making the bill was we cut out a big rectangle of cardboard then we cut in and ripped pieces of cardboard out to give it depth then we carved all the details and colored it all.

My prices I had making my snail was instead of paper mache I made it clay. First I got a strip of clay and made it into a long strip and widened it out to make the shape of the body. Then I made a punch pot for the shell and then made smaller ones and added it to the big one to make the swirl on the shell. Then I attached the shell to the body and waited for it to dry after it dried I added the pattern/ design.
my piece was successful because the snail looks like a realistic one but just bigger. the difficulties I had with my piece was getting the pattern on the snail to look good. Then I had trouble with getting the shape of the shell. The process I did to make my piece was to this one of the pieces and then I coiled one piece then I just threw a bu cj of stuff that would burn cool colors on it and then fired it
the difficulties I had were that I did t get to control the colors I wanted as best as possible then what was successful was that it threw my first piece and it was good It comes from a combination of the techniques of pit firing and firing in saggars. The decorating and the firing are done in containers of clay called saggars. They can be any size and shape, as long as they fit into the kiln. Saggars were originally used to protect pottery from impurities like ash landing on them during a firing. Now they are used to create their own atmospheres inside the saggar. They are usually stacked one on top of another inside a gas kiln. I got this idea by tho king of simple but a cool design
mu process I had to make this piece was I threw a little pit on the wheel then glazed it with black glove then trimmed the piece and put my design on it The vase we made was the psykter vase. The use of this vase in Greek times was to hold wine. What I did on the vase was make the fish and the seaweed. sgraffito is a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing. Registers is a horizontal level in a work that consists of several levels arranged one above the other, especially where the levels are clearly separated by lines
I started with rolling the slab then I made it into the mug and folded the legs in then made the frog legs and made the face then I fired it and then glazed it then fired it again.
I made the handles double handles like on the sides I rolled them out and made them into front legs i found that I was successful in picking the righ colors for the frog. I would have changed how I didn’t make it so smooth I wish I smoothed it out clay that is flattened by rolling
My theme was outer space I showed this theme by putting a rocket ship and an alien and stars
the thing I finale successful about the project is that the colors stood out from the prince I would probably changed the size of the frame it was big I started with the frame and added small details to that would make it a space theme then added it all together and finally glazed it Pros of the project we’re that it was a different piece it was unique
the cons of the piece were that it was very confusing to know what techniques to use for what the process that we used was figure out what would work for what places and then make it color is and place it in it’s spot 1. my process of making my foam carving is i wanted to make it into lightning McQueen
2.the obstacles that i overcame are that i had trouble getting the exacts shape it needed to be and painting him 3. i chose the colors for my piece because they are the same colors as lightning mcqueen 4. i found my piece was successful in looking and acting like a car |
